One Step Forward: Advancing Knowledge on Italian VET-Laboratory Instructional Practices

    Get PDF
The instructional practices implemented by the teacher in the Italian initial Vocational Education and Training (VET) system has rarely been the subject of empirical studies. Indeed, an exploratory literature review showed no results. Often, this kind of instructional practices risks being confined in the VET-laboratory framework, leaving unexploited their potential that could be able to cross boundaries between the classroom and the workplace. In order to provide transferable and reusable information on instructional practices of both VET teachers and the teachers of general school, ethnography and the Grounded Theory approaches were combined. Despite the data analysis is not yet finished and the model still to be elaborate, the principal findings of the present contribution represent a set of suggestions for VET teachers (both those who teach practical subjects and those who teach cultural subjects) and the teachers of the general school. Further analysis will aim to design a model which represent a middle-range theory of VET-lab teachers’ instructional practices and a set of instruments that could be useful for VET teachers’ (and for school teachers too) training and teaching practices

A formal proof of modal completeness for provability logic

    Get PDF
This work presents a formalized proof of modal completeness for G\"odel-L\"ob provability logic (GL) in the HOL Light theorem prover. We describe the code we developed, and discuss some details of our implementation, focusing on our choices in structuring proofs which make essential use of the tools of HOL Light and which differ in part from the standard strategies found in main textbooks covering the topic in an informal setting. Moreover, we propose a reflection on our own experience in using this specific theorem prover for this formalization task, with an analysis of pros and cons of reasoning within and about the formal system for GL we implemented in our code

Formazione e industria 4.0: pratiche e sfide formative tra tecnologia e consapevolezza (la voce dei formatori)

Given the influence that the Industry 4.0 phenomenon has on the world of education and training, it is necessary to monitor its evolution in order to enable educational and training institutions to update their curricula and acquire new technologies and training practices to support teaching activities. Through the collection and analysis of the testimonies of a group of 21 Italian continuing education trainers, an attempt was made to frame and understand the direct and indirect effects of Industry 4.0 on Italian training processes, methods, and training contexts in order to return a set of useful information for both the world of vocational training and the world of generalist education, as it too is called upon to confront this phenomenon. The information that emerged may be useful for recalibrating and localising educational training models oriented towards digitalisation and technological innovation.

Using Hypervideo to support undergraduate students' reflection on work practices: a qualitative study

    Get PDF
Abstract According to several exploratory studies, the HyperVideo seems to be particularly useful in highlighting the existing connections between the school-based and the work-based contexts, between authentic work situations and theoretical underpinnings. This tool and its features, in particular, the video annotation, seems to constitute an instrument which facilitates the students' reflection on work-practices. Even though several researchers have already studied the efficacy of HyperVideo, studies concerning the qualitative differences between a reflection process activated with or without its use are still missing. Therefore, the present contribution is focused on the reflective processes activated by two groups of students engaged in a higher education course while they carry out a reflective activity on work practices using the HyperVideo or not. The aim is to investigate wether the HyperVideo can be useful for students to foster the connection between theoretical concepts and work practices. Through multi-step qualitative analysis which combined Thematic Qualitative Text Analysis and Grounded Theory, a sample of reflective reports drafted by a group of students who employed HiperVideo to make a video-interview on a work-practice and to reflect on it (Group A) was compared with a sample of reflective reports drafted by a group who did not use it to complete the same task (Group B). The results emerging from the comparison of the coding frequencies between the two groups show that HyperVideo can support the reflective processes of students, better connecting theory and professional practice

Climate Aridity under Changing Conditions and Implications for the Agricultural Sector: Italy as a Case Study

    Get PDF
A comprehensive diachronic analysis (1951–2010) of precipitation and temperature regimes has been carried out at the national and regional scale in Italy to investigate the impact of climate aridity on the agricultural system. Trends in climate aridity have been also analysed using UNEP aridity index which is the ratio between rainfall and potential evapotranspiration on a yearly basis. During the examined time period, and particularly in the most recent years, a gradual reduction in rainfall and growing temperatures have been observed which have further widened the gap between precipitation amounts and water demand in agriculture
